BOOK REVIEW: How Deep the Roots Go

How Deep the Roots Go by Michelle007
This is one of my all-time favorite Wattpad books, and I know this paranormal gem will soon be one of yours too.
How Deep the Roots Go is a story about Temperance Augustine, a young girl who is losing her magical gift and has no idea why. With the support of her best friend she learns the truth about her power and why it is being taken away from her. Tasked with the almost impossible responsibility of locating something stolen from another realm, she must learn to look beyond what the human eye can see- the key to her venture coming in the package of a tall dark, drool worthy mysterious man. When love comes in the way of duty, Temperance faces a world-changing decision. With mystery, suspense, angels, demons, magic and mysterious tarot cards, this book deserves a spot in your library.
Michelle writes this Paranormal mystery effortlessly, transporting you into New Orleans and the mysterious magic that lurks around each corner. There is nothing cliché about this story, which makes it an incredibly refreshing read that keeps you captivated on every page. The twists and turns kept me guessing till the very last chapter- and this is only book 1!

Temperance is the type of main character that as soon as she comes onto the page you feel an instant connection with. She is relatable, even with the fantasy that surrounds her. With a magical gift that is passed down through generations, she is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Brilliantly developed, Temperance goes from having little hope in herself and the world around her to falling in love and learning that her destiny- and love interest- is more than she could have ever imagined.
The love that blossoms on the page is pure and sweet and swept me away. Leaving me often screaming in frustration (inside voices only) as chapters came to an end or sighing with relief and punching the air with joy, having to awkwardly explain my sudden burst of happiness to concerned family members. It really is a roller-coaster of emotions. But all of you lucky people have the advantage of not having to wait for updates!
The subplots are well constructed, complementing the main plot without being too overbearing, yet letting the individual characters grow and transform before your eyes. Written from a few different perspectives, you get an insight into many different characters' minds. Their flaws make for a refreshing read as each character goes through the events that begin to unfurl trying to make sense of it all. The changes in perspective are clear and precise, with each character having their own voice in the text. This skill is so hard to pull off well for anyone who has ever attempted to do it, and is a testament to how great a writer Michelle really is.

This is a book for everyone, enjoyable for teenagers and adults alike. If you enjoy mystery, the supernatural, strong female leads, quirky best friends, and gorgeous guys then this is the book for you. Now in the midst of book 2, this really is a book series you shouldn't miss.
